My condolences to the Hawkins family. I was a 6th grade student of his at George Washington School # 1 Elizabeth,NJ in 1966. Mr Hawkins was one of the most caring teachers I knew. He loved what he did and was respected by everyone. A real gentlemen and educator. May he rest in Paradise.

Hawk took care of me as a freshman at Allen. Took me under his wing and guided me through “that hazing process freshmen had to endure during those times (1957). I will be forever grateful for the opportunity to have been called one of his friends! He will be missed by many. He was such a caring and kind guy. God bless. Joop

Mr. Hawkins was my first principal when I started my teaching career in 1987. He cared deeply for his students and staff. One of the first things he said to me was “that for some of our students the school day was the best part of their day”. That quote has stayed with me throughout my career. He was a kind and gentle man. I will remember him with fond memories. My deepest sympathies to all of his family.

My deepest sympathy to the family. Mr. Hawkins was my first principal and a wonderful leader and man. I adopted one of his greatest beliefs that the work family is special and together anything can be accomplished . I remember that everyday as I lead my school. Thank you for your wisdom. I’ll miss you.

Our hearts are saddened by the loss of Mr . Hawkins. He had been my principal for 25 years at Winfield Scott School 2. He insisted that we be fair, frank, and firm with our students. Additionally, he challenged everyone in his school to let their pride show. Family was extremely important to him and we were family to him. He was one of a kind and will be truly missed. We must continue his legacy in spite of his passing. May the Hawkins family find comfort in knowing that he was loved and respected by all.
